Hana Hoshi
Hana Hoshi
These little floral wishing star brooches are made from silk organza. In Japanese, hana means flower and hoshi means star. Hoshi also has an additional meaning -to wish for or desire (maybe you’ll want one!).
The fabric is made using the shibori technique tekumo. Kumo means spider (as the wrapping when opened resembles a web)-a spider’s web is a flower’s friend in the garden. Te means by hand, or handmade.
The silk organza goes through many process steps in order to achieve its shape and color it before I make it into a hana hoshi(boshi). Base dyeing, ironing, binding, discharging, overdyeing, steaming, drying ,and finally the exciting unbinding. After that, with needle and thread the silk is sculpted into a beautiful star flower.
As in the hand of Nature, there are no two exactly alike.
Each flower is about 4.5” and has a magnetic bar on the back to attach it to your garment, scarf, handbag etc..
Flowers will be shipped boxed for Priority mail to prevent crushing.
**NOTE- due to the clunkyness on the backend of the Squarespace platform, I have to use a workaround to assign ship cost by weight rather than by product. For some reason they can’t wrap their heads around this concept even though the forums are screaming at them to fix this. If there are any overcharges due to this I will refund the amount to you. Apologies…
