Indigo, Shibori, and Sashiko- Making a Komebukuro Treasure Bag

April 12 & 13
This is a two day workshop.
Saturday–Sunday
11 a.m.–4 p.m. (both days)

The first day of the workshop will include a little shibori and indigo dyeing as well as sashiko and boro stitching the four side panels for the komebukuro. I will also introduce the work of Ayako Miyawaki and the possibility of adding some applique to your piece. Those will then be used the following day, stitching them together and lining the bag. These bags, in which offerings were taken to the local temple, were originally made from either scraps of leftover and reusable household textiles or from unused family kimonos.
