Indigo and Natural Dyeing Experience
Indigo and Natural Dyeing Experience
This in-studio small group experience will combine experiments in natural dyeing in combination with indigo. Natural dye materials will include madder, cochineal, marigold, and Japanese mugwort. Various mordants will be used to shift colors and fix the color to the cloth as needed.
I have madder grown here as well as marigolds! We may supplement these materials as needed. Kakishibu will make an appearance! I wonder if there will be enough yarrow for a dyepot?
Fabrics will include cotton, linen and silks of which several of these will be pre-mordanted for you. I will also have threads for you to dye.
Bring a notebook if you want to create some swatch cards/pages.
Shibori techniques will be practiced and all tools will be available for your use.
It is likely to be hot so dress accordingly. Wear close-toed shoes and comfortable studio clothes.
Limited to 6 people for an intimate experience where everyone has the time and space to freely create.
